The code blue and Liberty hospitals have been identified as a result of the breach, according to a King County health official.
“We are working with the health department to determine how and why the codes were assigned to these hospitals,” said King County Health Officer Steve Hahn.
The hospital codes blue is for King County Children’s Hospital, and Liberty is for the Liberty Health Institute, which is in a different county.
In an emailed statement, the hospital said that the codes had been assigned “because we were notified about a possible security breach.”
“Our security procedures and processes are thorough, and the appropriate personnel have been working around the clock to protect us from any potential threats,” the hospital added.
It is not clear if the hospital codes were linked to any other breach.
On Friday, the Health Department’s security director told The Washington Post that the breach may have involved an employee.
Hahn said that while the hospital and the health officials are “doing everything they can” to ensure that the hospitals are “secure and operating at maximum capacity,” the county will need more help to protect the public.
According to the Associated Press, the breach at King County hospitals was first reported by the Seattle Times on Monday.
